ASS 1

In this island settings, i make to display a quite serious mood, especially through the video. The reason why is the island shape. The basic shape is P and 3, and when i was thinking about the ideas, i come up with an idea where the P will become like a crater, and the 3 bit will become a beach. Then when i develop the island, i figure out that the island need structures, that's why i made it looks like it was habituated. For the camera shots, i make it pan so that the video shows the landscape of the island, going around the island and finish with a pan a cross the island from above. The symbols (P and 3) in this island area pretty obvious, some of them are hidden, and some of them need certain angle to see them. I put it this way so that it look natural, even though some of the really obvious one doesn't look so natural.

1. Lombok
  •  vegetation : Not much trees, mostly rocks and some trees on them
  • terrain :Rough, harsh, dramatic changes on the height, but some places are pretty level
  • lighting : Going to have some shadows since it has a wall like landscape produced by the cliff

2. Mount Semuru and Mount Bromo

  •  vegetation : Has trees, but not tall one, enough to make the lanscape look green, but someof them are pretty leafless
  • terrain :Mountain range like, not level, but the changes isnt so dramatic, has grids
  • lighting : doesnt have too many shadow since the highest point of the landscape isnt covering the lower point

  • 3. Dolomites, South Tyrol
    •  vegetation : There are almost no vegetations on the high points, mrely rocks only. But on the lowe part there are grass
    • terrain : Rocky, pointy edges, really steep. Some part are really high and the lower point is just pretty level
    • lighting : The part that isnt covered by the shadow is really bright because of the colour of the rocks (white). The pointy points are close to each other that it make a line like a wall.

    4. Kerid Crater Lake
    •  vegetation : Mostly soil and grass only
    • terrain : Steep around the crater, the surrounding of the crater looks level though
    • lighting : Wont have much shadow since there arent any tall walls surrounding it

    5. Upper McLean FallsNew Zealand
    •  vegetation : A lot of green trees around the upper level of the waterfall. Mostly rocks only around the lower part.
    • terrain : Really steep on the higher part of the waterfall, but the lower bit doesnt change so dramatically
    • lighting : Bright, from the picture the sun just shine right above it, so there wont be a lot of shadows, except from the trees

The lecture last week really changed my vision about Sandbox. It showed me how powerful the program is, it’s like the lecture showed me Sandbox’s true strength. The lecture also give me ideas about what the course is going to be about, what the markers expect from the experiments, and what kind of detail that we can achieve by working with the program.

5 ways of Sandbox toolbar editor set up

    1. When you are opening a lot of different windows, you can merge all of them into one window with different tabs. Each tab have the content of those windows that you merge.
    2. Console or Roller can be detached and place where ever you feel it's the right place. It's magnetic to the edges, so if the window is drag near the edge of Sandbox window, then it'll stick to the closest edge.
    3. The number of toolbar that you can have on Sandbox can be increased or decreased. You can decrease it by just simply closing some toolbar that you think it's unnecessary. To increase it, go to Tool > Customize Keyboard (on the first tab click "New") > input the name > press ok.
    4. On Customize tab, in the option part "Show Shortcut..." button can be activated to show shortcut buttons on the screen.
    5. Making hot key is also possible, as simple as going to custom > keyboard.

10 Tips related to Sandbox User Interface

    1. To make a command, there are a lot of ways. E.g. to make new tool bar we need to access customize. To enter customize people can just simple right click then select customize or go to tool bar then customize.
    2. Search bar on the top right side can be used to show some specific object, e.g if user only want to see rocks, type rock on the search bar. Everything that has "rock" on the name will appear and the others are hided.
    3. On the bottom bar, there's a button that looks like 3 dots. The button is very useful because when it's active, the camera can't penetrate the terrain which mean it'll just hit the terrain and wont go through it to the sea.
    4. Activating AI physics will allow the user to edit terrain while it looks like game mode, so the user can see the how it will look when people actually use the terrain.
    5. Having a command bar is good because it tells users warnings and any errors
    6. On the first tab of the editor group on the right side, there's a "Solid" button. The button allows user to make solids like in 3ds max. It's really useful to make objects, can be used like 3ds max.
    7. When changing panels, the position might change time to time. She placement can be save through View -> Save Layout.
    8.  When the editor tab is accidentally closed, to bring it back go View -> Open View Panel
    9. Working in groups is a lot easier. There are 2 type of groups Group and Prefact. If prefact is copied and modified, all copies will be modified at the same time. With groups, this thing won't happen.
    10. Selector can be activated to help seeing which object is currently selected. To turn it on go to the game tab, then turn on selections.
